West Michigan Sports Commission Announces $11 Million Expansion of Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford

The West Michigan Sports Commission is set to embark on an $11 million expansion of the Meijer Sports Complex in Rockford, bringing exciting new additions to the already popular facility. The expansion will include a new championship-level softball field, 20 pickleball courts, a new concession building, 450 additional parking spaces, and more.

Mike Guswiler, the commission’s president, expressed excitement about the expansion, stating, “Our vision from the beginning was always to expand the complex to grow with the needs of the youth and amateur sports industry, and today we are ready to take that next step.”

The new additions aim to address the growing demand for gender parity in sports, with new diamond fields for softball and the rising popularity of pickleball. The commission plans to launch a capital campaign to raise public and private funds for the expansion.

The Meijer Sports Complex, which opened in 2015, has been a hub for youth and amateur sports, hosting between 20 and 25 events annually. The facility currently features eight baseball and softball fields, warm-up areas, restrooms, concessions, and maintenance buildings.

With the upcoming expansion, the Meijer Sports Complex is poised to deliver a championship-caliber experience for tournament directors from across the country. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in Rockford.
