Hearts and Paddles Returns to Saginaw for Second Year: Pickleball Tournament and Health Expo for Cardiovascular Health

Hearts and Paddles Returns to Saginaw for Second Year, Promoting Cardiovascular Health Through Pickleball

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – The popular Hearts and Paddles event is making its return to Saginaw for its second year, offering a unique opportunity for community members to protect their heart health while discovering a new passion.

Hosted by the Pulse3 Endowment for Community Cardiovascular Health, the event invites anyone to stop by and play pickleball, a sport that is gaining popularity for its accessibility and lower skill level. Alongside the games, attendees can explore a health expo featuring resources, screenings, and free flu shots.

Dr. Steve Vance, director of the Pulse3 Endowment for Community Cardiovascular Health at Central Michigan University, emphasized the importance of regular exercise in maintaining cardiovascular health. He highlighted pickleball as a great option for people of all ages, citing its social aspect and lower impact on the body compared to other sports.

The Pulse3 Foundation, which serves the communities of Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland, aims to promote heart-healthy activities in the region. This year, they have partnered with organizations like the Saginaw County Medical Society, BWell Saginaw, and Blue Cross Blue Shield to provide free resources to the public.

Whether attendees are seasoned pickleball players or complete beginners, everyone is encouraged to participate in the tournament and take advantage of the health expo offerings. The event will take place on Sep. 14-15 at the Garber Courts in Saginaw, with open play and free drop-in lessons available throughout the weekend.

Participants from last year’s event praised the sense of community and fun they experienced while playing pickleball. With opportunities for learning and friendly competition, Hearts and Paddles promises to be a weekend of heart-healthy activities for all.
