First Paddle Youth Pickleball Training Program Set to Launch in Aiken
Aiken, SC – Exciting news for young athletes in Aiken as the First Paddle youth-focused pickleball training program is gearing up to kick off its inaugural six-week session for kids aged 12-14. The pilot program, a part of the Southern Pickleball Academy, will begin on Sunday, Oct. 13, and will run weekly from 2-3:30 p.m. at the St. John’s Methodist Church gymnasium in downtown Aiken.
What sets First Paddle apart is its unique approach to sports training, integrating character development activities into its curriculum. Participants will not only learn the fundamentals of pickleball but will also engage in lessons that focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, and leadership. The goal is to build confidence both on and off the court, using pickleball as a platform for personal growth and character development.
Leading the sessions will be Lisa Barrett-Johnson, a certified pickleball professional with a passion for youth sports development. With a team of trained mentors by her side, Lisa aims to create a fun and supportive environment where young athletes can thrive both athletically and personally.
“We’re excited to bring this unique program to the youth of Aiken,” said Bob Fogle, co-director of Southern Pickleball Academy. “Our goal is not just to create skilled pickleball players, but to help shape well-rounded individuals who can apply the lessons learned on the court to their everyday lives.”
