Youth Pickleball Clinic Introduces Fast-Growing Sport to Pelham Kids

Posted In:

Pelham Parks and Recreation is hosting a Youth Pickleball Clinic on July 26 at the Pelham Recreation Center for kids aged 10 to 16, aiming to introduce them to the fundamentals of pickleball, America’s fastest-growing sport. The clinic, costing $18 per participant, will teach basic skills such as serving, volleying, driving, and dinking, along with strategy and court positioning. Certified instructors from the Magic City Pickleball Club will lead the sessions using games and drills, making the experience fun and accessible regardless of skill level. Equipment will be provided if needed, and registration is open until July 25 with limited spots available.

This initiative reflects a broader trend in Jefferson and Shelby counties where pickleball is gaining traction in schools and communities, shifting its image from an adult pastime to a youth-friendly sport. Pelham Parks and Rec plans to expand youth programs to help kids develop skills, confidence, and prepare for competitive play. The clinic aligns with the department’s mission to promote fitness, introduce new activities, and foster healthy habits in a supportive environment, highlighting pickleball’s accessibility, fast pace, and cardiovascular benefits.
