Miri Division Closed Pickleball U-19 Tournament 2025: A Showcase of Rising Talent
MIRI: The Miri Division Closed Pickleball U-19 Tournament 2025, held from April 26 to 27 at the Paragon Pickleball Centre, has highlighted the sport’s burgeoning popularity and the local commitment to nurturing young talent. With six schools and 78 enthusiastic players participating, the event marked a significant milestone in the development of pickleball in Sarawak.
Athletes from St Joseph, St Columba, SMK Chung Hua, Pei Min, Riam Road Secondary School, and the debuting SM Sains showcased their skills, bringing an exciting new dynamic to the competition. The tournament, organized by the Miri Division Pickleball Association, celebrated its third consecutive year, reflecting the association’s dedication to fostering junior talent in the region.
In a thrilling display of athleticism, several young players emerged as multiple-title winners. Shaquille Safaraz dominated the U16 and U19 Boys categories, clinching victories in the U16 Boys Singles, U16 Boys Doubles alongside Izz Ghazi Mohd Faridz, and the U19 Boys Doubles with Eyshan Rizqi Mohammed Faridz.
Not to be outdone, Kirshelya Rhsme Prabakaran shone in the U19 Girls Singles and teamed up with Dalzshervyn Roshen Prabakaran to secure the U19 Mixed Doubles title. Dalzshervyn also triumphed in the U19 Boys Singles, adding to his impressive haul.
Other notable champions included Aisha Dalia Ahmad Saili Fitri in the U16 Girls Singles, and the dynamic duo of Norman Wong and Kwong Jia Yu in the U16 Mixed Doubles. The U19 Girls Doubles title went to Sonia Ho and Wong Yiirou, further showcasing the depth of talent on display.
Organizers praised the high level of performance, discipline, and enthusiasm exhibited by the players. “The tournament served not only as a platform to nurture emerging talents but also reinforced Miri’s standing as the birthplace and growing hub of pickleball in Malaysia,” they stated.
As the sport continues to gain traction among youth, the Miri Division tournament stands as a testament to the successful grassroots efforts aimed at developing pickleball across Sarawak. With each passing year, the excitement and talent in this vibrant community only seem to grow, promising a bright future for the sport in the region.
