Windsor Pickleball Club Lobbying for Better Equipment and Safety Measures

The Windsor Pickleball Club is making a strong push for better equipment at the WFCU Centre, and they are willing to put their money where their mouth is. The club is requesting permission from the city to provide upgraded nets and flooring for the three indoor pickleball courts at the facility. Additionally, they are asking for the city to cover the costs of padding the wall on one end of the gym, following a tragic incident earlier this year.

In June, a member of the club tragically passed away after hitting his head on the hard cinder block wall while playing pickleball. This incident has prompted the club to advocate for improved safety measures, including the installation of padding on the wall to prevent future accidents.

Patrick Brown, the president of the Windsor Pickleball Club, highlighted the need for better equipment, citing issues with the current nets and flooring at the facility. The club is prepared to cover the costs of the new nets and flooring, which are estimated to be over $40,000. They are only requesting a discount on user fees in return for their investment.

Members of the club have expressed support for the proposed upgrades, emphasizing the importance of safety for players of all ages. The city council is currently looking into the costs of the padding and considering the potential impact on other programs at the facility. Despite the challenges, the club is optimistic that their proposal will be taken seriously and ultimately implemented for the benefit of all pickleball players in Windsor.
