Whitecourt’s Third Annual Pickleball Tournament: A Resounding Success and Community Engagement

The third annual Whitecourt pickleball tournament was a smashing success, drawing players from near and far to showcase their skills at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre. Co-organizer Jay Nicholls was thrilled with the turnout and level of play, emphasizing the competitive spirit that was on display throughout the day.

Participants from Whitecourt, Edson, Edmonton, and surrounding areas competed in various categories, including mixed teams, ladies’ doubles, and men’s doubles. The winners of the tournament were crowned, with Kaitlin Mather and Bruce West taking home the gold in mixed teams, Kaitlyn Mather and Lori Mather dominating in ladies’ doubles, and Jaewin Undag and Jay Nicholls emerging victorious in men’s doubles.

The event highlighted the growing presence of pickleball in Whitecourt, with the establishment of dedicated courts near the Twin Arenas in 2021 further solidifying the sport’s popularity in the community. With an entry fee of $30 per person, the tournament attracted a diverse group of players who all shared a passion for pickleball.

As pickleball continues to gain traction in Whitecourt, events like this tournament serve as a testament to the sport’s appeal and the strong sense of community it fosters among players. Congratulations to all the winners and participants, and here’s to many more successful pickleball tournaments in the future!
