Westshore Parks and Recreation Society to Host Annual General Meeting on June 12, 2025

COLWOOD, BC — June 6, 2025

The Westshore Parks and Recreation (WSPR) Society is gearing up for its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for Thursday, June 12, at 6 PM. The meeting will take place in the Fieldhouse behind the main recreation centre located at 1767 Island Highway (Highway 14) in Colwood.

WSPR, a collaborative effort among five municipalities—View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Highlands, and Metchosin—serves as a vital hub for community recreation and wellness. The AGM will provide an opportunity for residents to engage with the board and learn about the future direction of local recreational facilities.

Key Agenda Items

The meeting will feature several important agenda items, including:

  • Strategic Plan Update (2021-2026): An overview of the ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing community services.
  • Finance Committee Report: Insights into the financial health of WSPR and future budgeting plans.
  • Personnel Report: Updates on staffing and organizational changes.
  • Asset Management Report: A review of the facilities and infrastructure that serve the community.

The board will also present the 2024 annual report, highlighting achievements and challenges faced over the past year.

Investing in Community Infrastructure

The facilities managed by WSPR represent a significant investment by local taxpayers, providing a wide range of amenities including a swimming pool, ice arena, The Q Centre (a mid-size arena with an ice rink and lacrosse floor), pickleball courts, a skate park, and a golf course. Additionally, WSPR offers fitness programs, licensed child care, and summer camps, catering to the diverse needs of the community.

A New Board Structure

The current board of directors consists of one representative from each of the five municipalities, a shift from previous structures that included a larger group of councillors and community representatives. This streamlined approach aims to enhance decision-making efficiency and better serve the community’s interests.

The board meets regularly on the second Thursday of each month, setting policies and guidelines for the operation of WSPR and its facilities.

Community Engagement Encouraged

Residents are encouraged to attend the AGM to voice their opinions and stay informed about the future of recreational services in the Westshore area. The meeting promises to be an informative session, fostering community involvement and transparency.
