Vail pickleball players achieved notable success at recent tournaments, including the Rocky Mountain Pickleball Championships in Littleton and the USA Pickleball Golden Ticket national qualifier in Colorado Springs. John Donovan won the 3.0, 35-49 men’s singles title, while Juli Young and Mike Leigh secured the 4.5, 70+ mixed doubles crown. Leigh also teamed with Jeff Wiles to win the 4.5, 70+ men’s doubles title despite playing at reduced capacity due to a recent injury. At the national qualifier, Young and Sherrie Farris won gold in the 4.0, 70+ division, earning a spot at the national event in San Diego, while Bruce Aronow and Steve Lincks took silver in the 4.0, 60+ division.

In addition to their competitive achievements, Leigh, an author of books on the mental aspects of pickleball, is hosting a clinic focused on improving both mental and physical skills to enhance enjoyment of the game. Tournament prizes were uniquely practical, including beer glasses filled with coupons for indoor play, massages, and discounts, which players appreciated more than traditional medals. The Vail players’ continued success highlights their skill and dedication to the sport.
