University of Findlay Launches Oil Can Classic to Celebrate New Lit Pickleball Courts

The University of Findlay in Ohio has inaugurated four new lit pickleball courts with the launch of the inaugural Oil Can Classic tournament, held at the campus’s College Park area. The event attracted over 30 teams across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels competing over two days, with winners receiving custom trophies. These courts, the only ones in Findlay equipped with lighting for play until 11 p.m., aim to foster community engagement by encouraging both students and local residents to play together.

The courts were funded by a donation from Eric and Julie Anderson of AR Marketing, whose son is a professional pickleball player, reflecting their desire to create a welcoming space for the sport’s growing popularity. Organizers, including the University’s Wolfe Center for Alumni, Parents & Friends, hope the Oil Can Classic will become an annual summer tradition that strengthens community ties and promotes active lifestyles through high-quality facilities and evening play opportunities.
