Trap Shooting: The Fastest-Growing Sport Among Youth in Bismarck

The popularity of trap shooting among youth in Bismarck, North Dakota is on the rise, surpassing even the growth of pickleball, according to Fox Sports. High schoolers in the region are flocking to the sport, with area coaches noting a significant increase in participation.

At Capital City Gun Club in North Bismarck, young shooters like Jacob Schirado, a tier one shooter and co-captain of the Legacy High School Team, are leading the charge. Despite being relatively new to trap shooting, Schirado is already making a name for himself with his impressive skills.

The sport, traditionally male-dominated, is seeing a surge in interest from students of all genders. Jordan Entzel, Schirado’s co-captain, is proof of this trend, holding her own against the boys and excelling in competitions.

Since its inception in the spring of 2017 with just 33 members, high school trap shooting in the area has grown exponentially. All six high schools in the Bismarck/Mandan area now have teams, with participation numbers reaching as high as 80 students.

Head coach Josh Entzel attributes the sport’s appeal to its family-friendly nature, allowing multiple generations to participate together. For Jordan Entzel, trap shooting has become more than just a sport—it’s a community where she has formed lasting relationships.

As the high school spring season kicks off, the future of trap shooting looks bright in Bismarck. With opportunities for youth to sign up for the upcoming fall season, the sport’s legacy is set to continue for generations to come.
