Selkirk Sport Achieves Remarkable 1,900% Revenue Growth Amidst Pickleball Boom
Selkirk Sport Sees Unprecedented 1,900% Revenue Growth Amid Pickleball Boom
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — In a remarkable display of success, Selkirk Sport, a leading pickleball equipment brand, has reported an astonishing 1,900% revenue growth over the past five years. This surge comes as pickleball continues to gain traction across the United States and around the globe, captivating both professional athletes and amateur enthusiasts alike.
Founded in 2014, Selkirk has positioned itself as a one-stop destination for high-performance pickleball paddles. The company’s popular models—LUXX, Amped, Power Air, and Halo—are now staples on courts nationwide, drawing in a diverse customer base that spans generations. With pickleball’s rising popularity, Selkirk’s outlets are bustling with players eager to enhance their game.
The driving force behind Selkirk’s success are the Barnes brothers—Mike, Rob, and Tom—who are committed to investing heavily in the sport’s future. “Pickleball is not going to be on a hockey stick growth curve forever, but we think we’ll be able to adapt and focus on the industry for the long term,” said Mike, co-founder and co-CEO. “And we have no plans of getting into other sports.”
A Lab for the Future
To maintain its competitive edge, Selkirk has established a cutting-edge lab at its headquarters in Coeur d’Alene. This state-of-the-art facility is dedicated to developing innovative equipment and apparel, ensuring that Selkirk remains at the forefront of the industry. Tom Barnes, who oversees research and development, revealed that the company has invested over a million dollars in this advanced paddle testing lab.
Equipped with robotic arms, a bank of 3-D printers for rapid prototyping, and a CT scanner to analyze paddle durability, the lab allows Selkirk to conduct rigorous testing. “We can do thousands of shots on the paddle to see what happens with it,” Tom explained. “One way is, we shoot it with a really fast ball to see if we can physically break the paddle in half. We want to ensure it won’t fail if you trip on the court.”
Selkirk’s lab is touted as the most advanced in the pickleball industry, significantly reducing paddle manufacturing time to less than a week—compared to the nine months it typically takes for overseas manufacturers. This efficiency not only enhances production but also ensures high-quality control.
By aligning its testing capabilities with the specific requirements set by USA Pickleball and the United Pickleball Association of America, Selkirk has streamlined its processes, saving both time and money while maintaining a focus on quality.
Looking Ahead
As pickleball continues to expand into new markets, particularly in Asia, Selkirk Sport is poised for further growth. The company’s commitment to innovation and quality positions it as a leader in the burgeoning sport, ensuring that players of all levels have access to top-tier equipment.
With a loyal customer base and a forward-thinking approach, Selkirk Sport is not just riding the wave of pickleball’s popularity; it is shaping the future of the sport itself.
