Expansion of Spurlino Family YMCA Gym in Riverview Driven by High-Growth Demand for Recreation and Event Space
The Spurlino Family YMCA in Riverview has recently completed a gym expansion to meet the high-growth demand for recreation and event space in the area. Kenny Jenkins, superintendent in charge of construction, oversaw the project for Creative Contractors Inc. The newly completed 18,345-square-foot gymnasium aims to draw kids and adults for various activities such as volleyball, pickleball, basketball, exercise classes, training, summer camp programs, and events.
The expansion allows for the doubling of capacity for summer camp programs, introduction of youth volleyball and pickleball leagues, adult sports leagues, pickleball instruction, and more. Additionally, the gym provides space for group exercise programming, including boot camp, high-intensity interval training, family classes, and small group training. The facility also offers increased hours for pickleball open play on six designated indoor courts.
Upon completion of the project, Jenkins received a special gift from the YMCA staff – an autographed guitar signed by the workers who eagerly awaited the gym expansion. The guitar serves as a token of appreciation for Jenkins’ dedication and hard work on the project. The personalized gifting was a heartwarming surprise for Jenkins, who is a musician at heart.
The Spurlino Family YMCA hopes that the newly expanded gym will foster a deeper sense of community in the ever-expanding Riverview area. Josh Bornstein, president and CEO of Creative Contractors, expressed pride in building spaces like the new gymnasium that promote health and wellness and serve as a connective gathering space for families and neighbors. The facility is LEED Gold certified and has won a design award from the Hillsborough County Planning Commission.
