Gabriel Tardio Shines at 2025 Australia Pickleball Open with Two Gold Medals and a Silver

The Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) made history this past weekend by hosting its first pro tournament outside of the US, with the 2025 Australia Pickleball Open taking place in Melbourne. The event featured 382 players, including some of the top pros from the US and local talent from Australia and the far east.

One of the standout performers of the tournament was Gabriel Tardio, who may not have gotten as much pizza as he wanted in Melbourne, but he certainly left with a satisfying haul of two gold medals and a silver. In the Men’s Pro Singles event, Tardio defeated veteran Tyson McGuffin in the final to claim his first career PPA singles gold. The Women’s Pro Singles event saw Kaitlyn Christian emerge victorious, securing her second career PPA singles title.

In the Mixed Pro Doubles event, the top seeds Tyson McGuffin and Lacy Schneemann battled their way to a thrilling five-game victory in the final, showcasing the high level of competition at the tournament. The Men’s Pro Doubles event saw McGuffin team up with Tardio once again to claim another gold medal after a grueling five-game final against Quang Duong and CJ Klinger.

In the Women’s Pro Doubles event, Lacy Schneemann and Vivian Glozman dominated their way to the gold medal, capping off a successful tournament for the US-based teams. Additionally, the Senior Open Competition saw some impressive performances from the local players, with Brad Kluss and the duo of Christina Andrade and Tony Fields claiming gold medals in their respective events.

Overall, the 2025 Australia Pickleball Open was a showcase of top-tier pickleball talent from around the world, with exciting matches and memorable moments for both players and fans. The PPA pros will now head back to Arizona for the upcoming 2025 Tucson Open, continuing their quest for more success on the pickleball court.
