Pickleball Courts Surge as Top Amenity in Private Campgrounds for 2024, According to The Dyrt’s Latest Report
Pickleball Courts Take Center Stage as Top Amenity in Private Campgrounds for 2024
In a surprising twist for outdoor enthusiasts, pickleball courts have emerged as the most sought-after amenity in private campgrounds across the United States, according to the 2025 Camping Report Presented by Toyota Trucks. This annual report, compiled by The Dyrt, reveals that 17% of private campgrounds added pickleball courts in 2024, nearly doubling the second-most popular addition, Wi-Fi, which was installed by 9.8% of campgrounds.
The report is based on extensive surveys conducted with thousands of members from The Dyrt camper community, a representative sample of U.S. residents, and camping property managers nationwide. The findings highlight a significant shift in camping preferences, with pickleball courts overtaking traditional amenities like swimming pools and hot tubs.
Lloyd Lauland, president of RVC Outdoor Destinations, noted that the trend began after feedback from campers in 2020 indicated a desire for more recreational options. “We have now installed pickleball courts at three of our resorts: Pigeon Forge Landing RV Resort in Tennessee, Gulf Shores RV Resort in Alabama, and Sandusky RV Resort in Ohio,” Lauland shared. “Guests of all ages are enjoying the amenity, and we provide the equipment at no cost.”
The popularity of pickleball has surged in recent years, and campgrounds are capitalizing on this trend. At Gulf Shores RV Resort, the introduction of pickleball clinics and tournaments has proven to be a hit. “During a recent RV Rally, we hosted clinics led by one of the top professional pickleball players in the U.S. The event culminated in a tournament that was a huge success,” Lauland added.
Interestingly, properties were 29% more likely to add pickleball courts in 2024 than any other amenity, including dog parks, kayaks, and bicycles. While Wi-Fi remains the most commonly offered amenity, available at 71.5% of private campgrounds, the rise of pickleball reflects a growing trend towards active, community-oriented experiences in the great outdoors.
As the camping industry continues to evolve, it’s clear that the integration of fun, engaging activities like pickleball is reshaping the way people experience nature. With more campgrounds likely to follow suit, the future of camping looks not only adventurous but also increasingly social.
