Datuk Snowdan Lawan and Others Launch Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT)

Datuk Snowdan Lawan, along with other dignitaries, attended the launching ceremony of the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT) in Kuching. Snowdan, who is the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, expressed his support for the event and suggested that it could become a yearly fixture on Sarawak’s tourism calendar.

During the ceremony, Snowdan mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism is willing to allocate a special budget for the tournament in the future. He also highlighted the potential of integrating pickleball into larger sporting events such as the Borneo Games or Malaysia Games (Sukma).

The BPIT, organized by the Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA) in collaboration with various organizations, is set to attract players from several countries including Brunei, Indonesia, and Australia. The competition will feature a prize pool of RM20,000 and is expected to showcase the talents of both local and international players.

With the support of the Ministry of Tourism and other stakeholders, the BPIT aims to promote pickleball not only as a competitive sport but also as a means of engaging youth in rural communities. The event is seen as a platform for nurturing young talents and potentially uncovering future stars in the sport.
