Georgia’s Largest Amateur Pickleball Tournament Kicks Off in Macon with Over 1,200 Players

The Southern Pickleball Championship at Rhythm & Rally Sports & Events in Macon, Georgia has kicked off with a bang, attracting over 1,200 players from 21 states. This tournament, organized by the Southern Pickleball Association, has become Georgia’s largest Amateur Pickleball Tournament in history, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport.

The event has been so successful that they had to turn players away due to reaching capacity. Lara Schu, Director of Operations for Southern Pickleball, expressed her excitement about the turnout, emphasizing the positive impact these tournaments have on the community.

General Manager of Rhythm & Rally, John Roberts, shared his satisfaction with the vision of hosting such a large tournament coming to fruition. He credited Mayor Miller, Gary Wheat from Visit Macon, and Alex Morrison from the Urban Development Authority for driving the vision and making it a reality.

Roberts also mentioned that there is still room for growth and improvement, even with a turnout of 1,200 players. The tournament will feature singles events today, doubles tomorrow, and mixed doubles on Sunday, promising an action-packed weekend for pickleball enthusiasts.

The Southern Pickleball Championship is not just a sporting event but also a boost to the local economy, with players supporting local businesses and bringing in revenue to the community. With the success of this tournament, it’s clear that pickleball is on the rise and will continue to grow in popularity in the coming years.
