State Games of Mississippi Honored as Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism
The State Games of Mississippi has been recognized as a Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism for the year 2024. This prestigious award was given by “Sports Destination Management” in acknowledgment of the significant contribution made by the State Games, the City of Meridian, and Visit Meridian to the national economy.
The games, which took place in May, June, and July, saw over 5,200 athletes participating in more than 40 sporting events across 18 counties in Mississippi. With a total economic impact of over $1.88 billion, the State Games played a crucial role in boosting the local economy and promoting tourism in the region.
New venues and sports were introduced this year, including Ultimate Flying Disc in Ridgeland and Pickleball in Vicksburg. Youth Baseball in the Brandon/Pearl area attracted over 80 teams and 1,200 athletes, while Youth Soccer in Meridian drew an estimated 2,500 athletes and their families.
The State Games of Mississippi has been promoting amateur athletics and a healthy lifestyle for Mississippians of all ages and abilities since 1992. With the support of sponsors like Meridian Coca-Cola Bottling Company and BlueCross BlueShield of Mississippi, the games have grown to become one of the premier sporting events in the state.
