Johor to Explore Padel and Pickleball Sports Tourism Opportunities
Johor to Introduce Padel and Pickleball Courts to Boost Sports Tourism
Johor is set to become a hub for the sports of padel and pickleball, with plans to build six courts in strategic locations across the state. State Youth and Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Mohd Hairi Mad Shah announced the exciting news, highlighting the potential for these sports to attract sports tourism to the region.
“We are exploring the possibility of expanding padel and pickleball in Johor, with two locations already selected for the courts,” said Mohd Hairi. The construction of the courts is expected to begin soon, with a completion timeline of six to eight months.
The state government’s commitment to promoting these sports is evident in the allocation of RM500,000 for the construction of pickleball courts, as announced by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi during the Budget 2025 presentation.
In addition to the new courts, plans are also in place to open a Khabib Gym in Johor, with several locations being considered for the facility. The gym, named after former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is expected to attract fitness enthusiasts and martial arts fans alike.
The collaboration between the Johor State Sports Council and Khabib Nurmagomedov was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding, paving the way for the groundbreaking ceremony of the gym later this year.
With these exciting developments on the horizon, Johor is poised to become a premier destination for sports enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of activities to cater to both locals and tourists. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress of these projects as Johor continues to elevate its status in the world of sports.
