St. Johns County Advances Plan for New Indoor Pickleball Facility in Rolling Hills Industrial Park

Posted In:

A proposed indoor pickleball facility in St. Johns County is advancing after the county Planning and Zoning Agency unanimously recommended approval for a special use permit. The 7,000-square-foot facility, planned for construction at 6480 U.S. 1 in Rolling Hills Industrial Park, would operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with no outdoor activities and include 25 parking spaces. The project involves reconstructing an existing stormwater pond and is situated among various businesses on a 1.93-acre site owned by Mueller International Property Agents Corp.

Despite some opposition from local residents concerned about traffic, noise, and safety, the project will proceed to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval. Currently, there are 12 pickleball locations in the county, with the nearest existing facility about three miles away. The development is supported by Jacksonville-based Baker Design Group as the civil engineer and represented legally by Driver, McAfee, Hawthorne & Diebenow PLLC.
