Southlake Pickleball Complex Celebrates Successful First Year and Plans for Future Growth

The Southlake Pickleball Complex has wrapped up its first year with impressive numbers and plans for future improvements. Since opening on February 21, 2024, the facility has sold nearly 3,800 memberships, logged over 27,000 check-ins, and generated $186,294 in revenue.

Pickleball manager Eric Clay presented a one-year review of the facility’s success during the February 18 Southlake City Council meeting. Among the memberships sold, 225 were non-residents paying $40 per month. Due to demand, the city introduced $10 day passes in October, with over 200 people purchasing them through mid-February.

“There were 27,436 individual check-ins in the first year, which included more than 2,600 guest passes handed out in the first six months to members.” – Eric Clay

The pickleball complex saw a total of 4,737 court reservations, with 60% of bookings lasting two hours. Private and group rentals also had a two-hour minimum. Adjustments in operating hours led to increased attendance. In May, the facility started opening at 7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. and extended closing time from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. to accommodate higher demand.

“We are able to shift hours a little more efficiently and a little more effectively so [people] can enjoy pickleball when it fits their needs and not worry about the weather so much.” – Eric Clay

To further improve services, the facility will contract instructors to offer private lessons, semi-private lessons, and specialty clinics. Group and private rentals will also be upgraded with more scheduling flexibility. City council member Randy Williamson suggested allowing students under 22 to access the pickleball courts for free during summer midday hours when courts are often empty.

“It would put the courts to use, and it would get more interest in pickleball.” – Randy Williamson

Southlake Mayor Shawn McCaskill praised the facility’s success, stating, “The pickleball complex has been a huge success even going back to the construction project and process, it was smooth; that success carried forward into operations. It’s really exciting to see it used so much and so well. Everyone seems to be enjoying it.”

As the complex enters its second year, the city expects continued surge in participation and further enhancements to make pickleball more accessible to the community. The Southlake Pickleball Complex has completed its first year, selling nearly 3,800 memberships and logging over 27,000 check-ins. The pickleball facility will add private lessons, improved rental scheduling, and possible free student access during summer midday hours. Officials praise the complex’s success and expect continued growth in 2025.
