Former Reading Cinemas in Rohnert Park to be Transformed into Pickleball and Gym Complex

The transformation of the former Reading Cinemas in Rohnert Park into a pickleball and gym complex is set to bring new life to the vacant building that has sat empty since its closure in November 2023. CenterLine 33, the development team behind the project, plans to create the largest pickleball facility in the North Bay, offering a membership-based arena with additional health club and wellness amenities.

The project, approved for an Administrative Use Permit in June, will see the 16-screen theater space converted into a space with 17 indoor pickleball courts, as well as other games like pingpong and cornhole. The second floor will be transformed into a viewing lounge for guests, while a 2,000-square-foot gym and health club will offer saunas, locker rooms, cold-plunge baths, red-light therapy space, and more.

Outside, the facility will feature 16 outdoor pickleball courts enclosed by a 12-foot fence, with a shaded structure for seating and a waiting area for members. The project also addresses noise concerns for the outdoor courts, ensuring a positive experience for both players and neighbors in the commercial district.

Developers estimate that it will take a few months before demolition and construction can officially begin, with membership costs still being determined. The project aims to revitalize the retail center and provide a new health and wellness-focused space for the community.

The conversion of the former theater into a pickleball and gym complex marks a significant change for the Rohnert Park community, offering a new recreational option for residents of all ages. With the approval of the site plan and architecture review, the project is set to move forward and bring a fresh perspective to the once-vacant space.
