Pickleball Fundraiser to Support Youth Wellness and Substance Abuse Prevention
Local nonprofit organization Prevent Together: Battle Ground Prevention Alliance is hosting a fundraiser to promote youth wellness and prevent substance abuse through the sport of Pickleball. The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Chief Umtuch Middle School in Battle Ground.
Prevent Together, founded 12 years ago, is made up of parents, educators, law enforcement personnel, health professionals, and other community members dedicated to promoting youth wellness and substance abuse prevention. The organization hosts various programs and community events, including the annual National Night Out at Kiwanis Park.
The upcoming fundraiser will support initiatives such as the DREAM Team, a middle-school student group focused on drug prevention. Proceeds from the event, including pickleball entrance sales and a silent auction, will benefit these programs.
Jennifer Kirby, the executive director of Prevent Together, highlighted the organization’s mission to provide young people with the tools to live healthy, substance-free lives. She emphasized the importance of educating parents about current trends in substance use.
The fundraiser will feature pickleball clinics in the morning and matches in the afternoon, with prizes awarded to top players. A silent auction will also be held, featuring items donated by community partners.
The event will be Hawaiian-themed, with free activities for children to enjoy while their parents participate in the fundraiser. Kirby described the event as a community gathering meant to extend summer into October.
Those interested in participating can register at preventtogetherbg.org/pickleballforprevention. Entrance is free, and the cost to register for pickleball is $20. Players of all skill levels are welcome to join in the fun.
