The 2025 Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Select Medical Orange County Cup at Life Time San Clemente showcased intense competition with massive draws, including 77 men’s singles qualifiers and 62 men’s doubles teams. The event featured notable upsets, such as qualifier Rafael Lenhard defeating long-time singles No. 1 Ben Johns, and highlighted rising stars and international players making significant impacts. Hunter Johnson claimed the men’s singles title, tying for the No. 1 spot on tour, while Anna Leigh Waters secured her 52nd career PPA singles title and completed a triple crown weekend by winning women’s singles, women’s doubles (with Anna Bright), and mixed doubles (with Ben Johns). Waters now holds 154 career gold medals, just two behind Ben Johns.
In doubles, the men’s title went to Ben Johns and Gabe Tardio after a thrilling five-game final, while Waters and Bright maintained an undefeated 37-0 record in women’s doubles. The mixed doubles final saw Waters and Johns win their 50th title together, far surpassing other pairs. The event also featured strong performances in senior open categories and underscored the depth and competitiveness of the current pro pickleball scene. Following this event, the PPA tour takes a break until mid-August, with the Major League Pickleball (MLP) season continuing shortly in San Clemente.
