Retired Police Chief Rick Myers, who served as Sanford’s interim chief following the tragic death of Travyon Martin in 2012, is now part of a new group advocating for policy changes in Washington. The group, organized and funded by former chiefs of police and sheriffs, aims to insert the voices of police into public discourse to improve policing and reduce gun violence. Myers will be discussing their plans on the show Engage.
In other news, pickleball, a sport that is rapidly gaining popularity, is seeing significant growth in Orlando. The Orlando Squeeze, a Major League Team founded by the DeVos family, is expanding and investing in the community. Orlando Business Journal Staff Writer Ryan Lynch will be joining Engage to discuss the explosion of pickleball and the plans for a future facility.
Dr. Cori Baill, a UCF College of Medicine Professor and OBGYN, will also be on Engage to talk about the stigma surrounding miscarriage. With up to 20% of known pregnancies ending in miscarriage, Dr. Baill wrote a book called “Why is Mommy Crying?” to help explain early pregnancy loss to young children. She will discuss why she wrote the book and how to eliminate the shame associated with this topic.
Lastly, an exhibit featuring the work of renowned photographer Gordon Parks is currently on display at Winter Park’s Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens. Parks, known for his powerful and unflinching photographs of Black Americans, captured a series of images at Bethune Cookman University during World War II. Curator Tamie Diener-Lafferty will be discussing the exhibit on Engage.
