Santa Barbara Pickleball Tournament Featuring Kenny Loggins and Celebrity Exhibition Matches
Pickleball Takes Santa Barbara by Storm: Kenny Loggins to Host Celebrity Tournament
Pickleball has officially become the fastest-growing sport in the country, and Santa Barbara is no exception. With newly painted courts popping up all over the city, more and more people are picking up paddles and joining in on the fun. The sport’s popularity has skyrocketed since the pandemic, with clubs forming and competitive tournaments drawing in new players from all walks of life.
On May 2-4, Santa Barbara Pickleball will host its largest event yet, the “Pickleball in the Danger Zone” Tournament at the Santa Barbara Municipal Courts. The tournament is expected to draw over 400 players, including elite circuit players and celebrities like Kenny Loggins.
Loggins, along with his wife Lisa, discovered pickleball over six years ago and have been avid players ever since. They have become active members of the local pickleball community, participating in tournaments and fundraisers to support charitable causes.
Richard “Bam” Salzberg, Santa Barbara’s pickleball ambassador, has been instrumental in fostering the sport’s growth in the area. He notes that pickleball’s inclusivity is what sets it apart, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds for friendly competition and camaraderie.
The upcoming tournament will feature men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles divisions, with elite players competing alongside celebrities in exhibition matches. Spectators can look forward to watching Loggins, along with other stars like Martin Gore and James Valentine, showcase their skills on the court.
Tickets for the exhibition matches are $50 and include entry to the celebrity round-robin tournament, as well as a social hour with refreshments. Organizers recommend using rideshares or parking elsewhere, as there will be no public parking at the site.
