The 6th annual Picklepalooza tournament, held at Christina Lake on National Pickleball Day, featured 41 mixed doubles teams competing in skill levels from 2.5 to 4.0. The event used a round-robin format with teams advancing from ranking pools to medal matches, marking the largest turnout in the tournament’s history and growing popularity each year.
This year’s tournament introduced a digital innovation by using the Swish sports app to allow players to record and verify their own scores via QR code scanning, reducing paperwork and streamlining results tracking. Despite minor technical issues, the new system was well-received and aimed to enhance player engagement and attract newcomers by integrating modern technology into the event.
