2024 Year in Review Part 2: A Recap of Pickleball Events from July to December

The year 2024 was a whirlwind for the Pickleball sport and industry, with events unfolding from July to December that kept fans and players on their toes. From major announcements to player controversies, the second half of the year was filled with excitement and drama.

One of the highlights was the announcement by USA Pickleball of a massive $225k prize pool for its nationals in October, setting the stage for an exciting competition. MLP Australia conducted its 2nd season draft, attracting well-known American pros to compete in their fall events, marking a significant step towards international pro expansion.

There were also developments in membership levels and pricing by USA Pickleball, which received mixed reactions from the community. MLP and DUPR partnered to launch amateur events under the Minor League Pickleball brand, aiming to provide opportunities for aspiring players to compete alongside pros.

Controversies also emerged, such as the failed testing by PPL at the MLP Beer City event, leading to the removal of testing equipment and a free-for-all for paddle usage. Additionally, player rants, GM firings, and rule experiments added to the drama in the Pickleball world.

Looking ahead to 2025, the sport is set for major international expansion, new tournaments, and continued growth. With new partnerships, player signings, and rule changes on the horizon, Pickleball enthusiasts can expect another year of thrilling competition and surprises. Happy New Year to all Pickleball fans!
