Pickleball players win medals at the Vernon tournament early in the season

Royal Lepage Frostbite Men’s Doubles Classic Draws Pickleball Players from Across the Province

The Royal Lepage Frostbite Men’s Doubles Classic in Vernon, BC, was a smashing success as players from across the province gathered to compete in the early-season round-robin tournament on Saturday, March 15. Hosted by the Vernon Pickleball Association (VPA), the event saw a total of 61 teams and 122 players showcasing their skills in various divisions and age groups.

Tournament director Richard Chambers expressed his excitement for the high level of play, with athletes from the Lower Mainland, the Interior, and local players all bringing their A-game to the court. With hand-eye coordination, speed, and impressive shot-making on display, the competition was fierce in the higher skilled divisions.

The success of the tournament was made possible by the hard work of 30 volunteers who managed the scores, schedules, and refereeing duties throughout the day. Ten divisions meant ten gold medals were awarded at the end of the tournament, with winners ranging from different age groups and skill levels.

Looking ahead, the Vernon pickleball facility has more exciting events lined up, including the Royal Lepage Women’s tournament on April 12, a mixed tournament on May 10, and the BC Pickleball Championships on July 24-27. With the success of the Frostbite Classic, pickleball enthusiasts can look forward to more thrilling competitions in the months to come.
