Update on Sebring Pickleball Club and Request for Tournament Time at City Courts
Sebring Pickleball Club President, Dana Adams, recently provided an update to the Sebring City Council on the growing popularity of pickleball in the area. Adams, who helped design the six courts at Charlie Brown Park, highlighted the high demand for the courts, with 75 to 80 participants playing six days a week.
With Highlands County boasting 95 pickleball courts, Adams emphasized the importance of providing more free public access courts to accommodate the increasing interest in the sport. The Sebring Pickleball Club is also focused on encouraging youth participation in pickleball.
In a request to the City Council, Adams sought permission to use four of the pickleball courts at Charlie Brown Park for a ladies league tournament. The tournament, named Charlie’s Angels, is scheduled for January and February, with additional rain dates included. Adams expressed a desire for a streamlined process for future tournament requests to avoid the need for City Council approval.
Mayor John Shoop suggested that the City’s administration could handle future tournament requests, allowing for a more efficient process. Adams also mentioned plans to present ideas to the Council on expanding court hours to accommodate beginners and increase participation in the sport.
As pickleball continues to gain popularity in Sebring, the efforts of the Sebring Pickleball Club and the City Council to provide more opportunities for residents to play the sport are sure to be welcomed by the community.
