Pickleball Brings Community and Confidence to Men in West Point Rehabilitation Program

Posted In:

At The Mission in West Point, a faith-based rehabilitation program for men recovering from addiction and life-controlling issues, participants have recently been introduced to pickleball through a partnership with the local Starkville Pickleball group. Since June 12, the men have enjoyed new opportunities for exercise, fresh air, and community connection via lessons, equipment, and a temporary court set up by volunteers. Program leaders and volunteers emphasize how the sport fosters physical health, social interaction, confidence, and a sense of worth among the men, complementing their broader journey of transformation.

Participants like Jason Timmons and Lance Underwood have found pickleball both fun and challenging, appreciating the support from volunteers who teach the rules and encourage fair play. The Mission aims to continue these monthly pickleball sessions, hoping to expand resources and community ties to sustain the men’s progress beyond the program. Overall, pickleball serves as a meaningful tool to build fellowship, promote integrity, and enhance the men’s recovery experience.
