Pickleball Boom in Manitoba: Rapid Growth, Youth Programs, and Future Olympic Hopes

Posted In:

Pickleball is experiencing rapid growth across Manitoba, with membership soaring from 400 to nearly 3,000 in just three years. The sport, once seen primarily as a senior activity, is now attracting younger players, with the average age dropping from around 65 to between 50 and 55. Pickleball Manitoba has actively promoted the sport in schools, hosting youth tournaments and clinics, and is expanding club presence from one to about fifteen across various communities. Seniors remain a vital part of the player base, highlighting pickleball’s appeal as a lifelong, healthy activity.

Looking ahead, Pickleball Manitoba aims to further develop youth leagues, increase facilities, and secure recognition from Sport Manitoba to access funding and enhance programming. President Ted Fardoe is optimistic about the sport’s future, anticipating its inclusion in upcoming Olympic Games due to its fast growth and rising participation among high-level athletes. The organization’s strategic plans focus on sustaining and expanding pickleball’s reach throughout the province and beyond.
