Pickleball Seeks Recognition as National Sports Federation (NSF) after Successful World Championship
The All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) is making strides towards gaining recognition as a National Sports Federation (NSF) after the successful hosting of the inaugural World Pickleball Championship in India this month. With around 650 players from various countries participating in the championship, the governing body for pickleball has approached the sports ministry for official recognition.
Arvind Prabhoo, the chief of AIPA, expressed optimism about the prospects of pickleball becoming an Olympic sport in the future. He mentioned that the association had submitted the necessary documents to the ministry for recognition as an NSF and is eagerly awaiting a positive response.
Prabhoo highlighted the efforts being made to prepare young Indian players for future Olympic competitions, stating that AIPA has already started training youngsters for potential participation in the Games. He emphasized the affordability of pickleball equipment, which has become more accessible to players in India due to local manufacturing.
The reduced cost of equipment, coupled with the ease of playing pickleball compared to other racquet sports, has contributed to the growing popularity of the sport in India and around the world. Prabhoo also mentioned the support of sponsors and the structured organization of AIPA in promoting grassroots development of pickleball in various states.
With its physical benefits and recreational appeal, pickleball is gaining traction as a modern and inclusive sport that appeals to a wide range of players. As AIPA continues to push for recognition and support, the future looks bright for pickleball in India and beyond.
