Imperial Valley Pickleball Association Hosts Battle of the Badges Tournament

The Imperial Valley Pickleball Association and Pickleball Ambassador Antonia Mendez are making waves with their upcoming Battle of the Badges Tournament, set to take place on November 16, 2024, at Southwest High School in El Centro.

This unique tournament is open to members of law enforcement, active or retired military, first responders, and firefighters, with civilians also welcome to participate if paired with someone with a badge. The registration fee is $40.00, and those interested can contact Antonia Mendez at 760-222-6954 to sign up or become a sponsor.

All net proceeds from the tournament will benefit the annual “Shop with a Cop” program, which provides underprivileged children with a fun day and positive interactions with law enforcement officers during the holiday season.

Pickleball, America’s fastest-growing sport in 2024, has seen a surge in popularity with 36.5 million players in the U.S. The Imperial Valley Pickleball Association is working to expand access to the sport in the region, with approximately 170 players currently active and plans to build more courts to accommodate the growing interest.

The association’s goal is to promote the numerous health benefits of pickleball, including cardiovascular health, improved balance, flexibility, and stress management, while also fostering social interaction and community engagement.

With the Battle of the Badges Tournament, the Imperial Valley Pickleball Association hopes to spark interest in the sport and encourage more community members to join in on the fun and fitness. For more information, interested individuals can reach out to Antonia Mendez at 760-222-6954.
