PeaceHealth and Kidsports Partner to Provide ‘Play Days’ for Kids on No School Days
EUGENE, Ore. – Parents facing the challenge of finding childcare on days when school is closed now have a solution thanks to a new partnership between PeaceHealth and Kidsports. The two organizations have joined forces to offer ‘play days’ for kids on days when school is out, providing a safe and fun environment for children to spend their time.
In the month of November, there are four ‘no school’ days, which can leave parents scrambling to find care for their children. To address this need, PeaceHealth and Kidsports are offering ‘play days’ for up to 80 first through fifth-graders on each of these days. The dates for November are November 8, November 11, November 25, and November 26, with more dates to be announced throughout the school year.
The ‘play days’ will take place at the Kidsports field house on Amazon Parkway in Eugene from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will cost $60 per day. Activities will include dodgeball, kickball, basketball, obstacle course activities, and pickleball. Extended care from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. is available for an additional $15.
“We do have three to four member family discounts and we also provide scholarship assistance if a family’s eligible,” said Bev Smith, executive director of Emerald Kidsports. “We will provide a 25% reduction in that registration fee for the child to be here during that activity.”
Kidsports’ partnership with PeaceHealth aims to create more opportunities for children in the community. PeaceHealth Oregon’s chief hospital executive, Jim McGovern, MD, expressed his support for the program, stating, “We are happy to contribute to Kidsports and this wonderful program that helps fill a need in our community. We hope these play days build healthy habits for local children while also providing parents with peace of mind on no-school days.”
Children participating in the ‘play days’ should wear active clothing and gym shoes with non-marking soles, and bring a water bottle and lunch or snacks. More information can be found on the Kidsports website.
