PPA Tour: Hayden Patriquin Dominates Men’s Doubles Finals Victory

Hayden Patriquin returned a serve during his dominant finals victory in Men’s Doubles at the 2024 Veolia Sacramento Open, held at the Life Time facility in Roseville. The Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) hosted the event, which marked the second of two back-to-back tournaments in June.

The weather posed a challenge for players early in the event, with on-court temperatures reaching nearly 100 degrees. However, conditions improved for the doubles divisions on Friday and Saturday, allowing for some intense matches to unfold.

Veolia, one of the major sponsors on the PPA tour, continued its support with this being the fifth event of a six-event sponsorship deal.

In the Men’s Pro Singles division, Frederico Staksrud made a strong comeback after a challenging tournament in Texas. He faced tough competition throughout the event, including a match against the red-hot Hayden Patriquin in the round of 16. Ultimately, Staksrud emerged victorious in the finals, reclaiming the #1 ranking on tour.

In the Women’s Pro Singles division, world #1 Anna Leigh Waters showcased her dominance once again, securing her 38th career pro singles title. She defeated Catherine Parenteau in the finals to claim the gold.

The Mixed Pro Doubles division saw Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters continuing their impressive partnership, securing their 34th PPA Mixed pro title together. However, the event was not without its share of drama, including a “hot mic” incident and a controversial kitchen violation fault.

In the Men’s Pro Doubles division, Federico Staksrud and Hayden Patriquin emerged as the champions, defeating the three-time defending event champions JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier. The win marked the first doubles gold medal for both Staksrud and Patriquin.

In the Women’s Pro Doubles division, Waters and Parenteau once again proved to be a formidable duo, securing their 18th gold medal as a partnership. They dominated the competition, culminating in a decisive victory in the finals.

Overall, the 2024 Veolia Sacramento Open provided thrilling matches and memorable moments for pickleball fans. The event showcased the talent and skill of the top players on the PPA tour, setting the stage for future competitions.
