Ohio Social Sports Launches Free Pickleball Lessons for Seniors in Richland County
In an effort to promote physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being among seniors in Richland County, Ohio Social Sports has introduced a new initiative offering free pickleball lessons at the Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington.
The program, designed for seniors aged 60 and above, aims to address the issue of social isolation among older adults by providing a structured approach to physical fitness and social connection. Led by expert certified instructor Suzanne Bernstein, the lessons have quickly filled up, with spots being claimed within the first 24 hours.
Supported and funded by the Richland County Senior Services Levy, administered by the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., the program is part of Ohio Social Sports’ Senior Pickleball Training Program. This program seeks to combat loneliness and social isolation among seniors by offering engaging activities and opportunities for social engagement.
Gui Alves, owner and operator of Ohio Social Sports, expressed his excitement about the program, stating, “Pickleball is a fun and easy-to-learn sport and a fantastic way to bring people together. It’s an honor to provide a space where seniors can stay active, connect with others, and experience the joy of learning something new.”
Research has shown that regular exercise and social interaction can significantly improve the health and well-being of seniors. Pickleball, a low-impact and enjoyable sport, provides the perfect platform for achieving these goals. The program will not only focus on physical activity but also on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where seniors can develop lasting friendships and foster a sense of community.
Ohio Social Sports is dedicated to enhancing the physical and social lives of adults through sports programs.
