North Country Pickleball Club’s Fall Festival Raises $20,000 for Local Fire Departments

The North Country Pickleball Club’s recent fall festival was a huge success, raising $20,000 for five local fire departments in the area. The funds will go towards purchasing new equipment and providing training for the Potsdam, West Potsdam, West Stockholm, Hannawa Falls, and Norwood Volunteer fire departments.

The festival, held at Sandstoner Park Arena on September 7, featured a variety of activities including a 9/11 memorial ceremony, a pickleball tournament, a 5K run, a kickball contest, and raffle baskets. The memorial ceremony was a touching moment, with a fireman’s prayer, a moment of silence, and a bugle performance by Mary Russell. Bagpipe music by Ray Percer marked the beginning and end of the ceremony.

Teresa Fisher, one of the event organizers, highlighted the importance of supporting local firefighters, stating, “They do a lot for our communities, and it was our way to show respect and bring recognition to their group for everything that they do.” She also mentioned the absence of the Potsdam Fire Department due to an accident response, shedding light on the sacrifices made by these volunteers.

The Potsdam Elks Club also made a generous contribution by hosting a chicken and biscuit dinner and donating $1,000 to the fundraiser. Several local businesses and individuals also supported the cause, with ongoing donation opportunities still available.

Overall, the North Country Pickleball Club’s fundraiser was a heartwarming display of community support and appreciation for the local firefighters who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.
