The Universal Pickleball Association (UPA) is hosting its inaugural Independence Cup Pickleball Tournament in Noida on August 17 to promote patriotism and encourage an active lifestyle, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India vision. The event will feature over 100 participants across 11 age categories, with more than 150 matches scheduled at the new Pickleplay venue. The tournament offers a total prize pool of Rs 66,000 and aims to foster widespread interest in pickleball, a sport noted for its inclusivity across all age groups.
Since its formation in October 2022, UPA has conducted over 40 boot camps and 30 tournaments across Uttar Pradesh, successfully building a strong foundation for pickleball in the region. The association plans to expand its reach by establishing district-level bodies to strengthen grassroots infrastructure. UPA leaders emphasize the sport’s role in promoting health and fitness, contributing to the vision of a developed India by 2047, while players like Jyoti Dang Kandhari highlight personal achievements made possible through UPA’s support.
