Megan Fudge Shines at 2024 OWL Newport Beach Open, Just Misses Triple Crown

Megan Fudge had a banner weekend at the 2024 OWL Newport Beach Open, falling just short of the triple crown in the world of pickleball. The event, sponsored by OWL, drew a record-breaking 1750 entrants, making it one of the largest pickleball tournaments outside of Nationals and the US Open.

In the Men’s Pro Singles division, Christopher Haworth emerged victorious, securing his fourth APP singles gold of the year. In the Women’s Pro Singles, Megan Fudge managed to avoid the upset bug and clinched her seventh career singles gold after a thrilling final match against Kate Fahey.

In the Mixed Pro Doubles, Fudge teamed up with Jack Munro to claim the gold medal, giving Fudge two golds for the day. The duo cruised to victory, showcasing their skills on the court. In the Men’s Pro Doubles, Erik Lange and Max Manthou shocked the tour by taking the gold, while in the Women’s Pro Doubles, Yana Newell and Emily Cederquist upset Fudge and her partner to claim the top spot.

The event also featured competitions in the AARP Champions Pro and Masters Pro categories, with notable wins from Marcello Jardim, Karin Ptaszek-Kochis, Scott Moore, and Kris Anderson, among others.

Despite falling short of the triple crown, Megan Fudge’s performance at the 2024 OWL Newport Beach Open was nothing short of impressive. With a mix of upsets, surprises, and thrilling matches, the tournament showcased the depth and talent in the world of pickleball. Stay tuned for more exciting events on the pickleball calendar, including the upcoming Beer City Open and MLP’s mid-season tournament.
