Port Stephens Pickleball Club Hosts Successful Skills and Drills Equipment Day Demonstration Event
The Port Stephens Pickleball Club recently hosted a successful Skills and Drills Equipment Day Demonstration event at Tomaree High School’s Multipurpose Centre. The event showcased the club’s latest batch of new recruits, who had the opportunity to hone their pickleball skills in a relaxed environment.
New members Jo Laming, Linda Tighe, Steve Hopkin, Craig Goddard, Linda Blythe, along with Donna and Wayne Wilcox, joined club stalwarts Cheryl Sanderson, John and Jane Eyers, Tony Mayers, and Mary Cunnington for a day of skill-building and camaraderie.
Power hitter Mary upgraded her paddle during the event, gearing up for this year’s tournament schedule. Rookie player Laming also purchased a new paddle in preparation for her first tournament, the second annual Spirit of Pickleball Challenge at Menai Indoor Sports Centre.
The tournament, which honors the late Michelle Gibson, founder of the Sutherland Shire Pickleball Club, will be a sanctioned event under the Pickleball Australia Association. Competitors will play under USA Pickleball rules and compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals in each division, with winners receiving the Michelle Gibson Memorial Trophy as a perpetual recognition of Michelle’s legacy.
For those interested in joining the pickleball fun, the Port Stephens Pickleball Club can be contacted via the Open Sport app, Facebook page, or email at secretary.pspickleballclub@gmail.com.
Overall, the Skills and Drills Equipment Day Demonstration event was a great success, showcasing the growing popularity and skill level of pickleball players in the Port Stephens area.
