“New Location for Wichita State Pickleball Courts Announced”

The Wichita State pickleball courts are on the move, but not as originally planned. After concerns from faculty and students about disruptions to Lindquist Hall and the preservation of trees, the courts will now be located slightly north of their original proposed spot in the green space between Lindquist Hall, Heskett Center, and Hubbard Hall.

Student Government Association Sen. Andrew Bobbitt worked with university administration and campus recreation to make the change. John Lee, the director of campus recreation, explained that the new location will allow for the preservation of three trees and the relocation of the art sculpture “Profile Canto IV-A.”

Despite the unexpected change, there is optimism within campus recreation about the move. Lee expressed excitement about the potential for the courts, calling them a “start to something that should be bigger one day.” The construction of the pickleball courts is set to go out on bid soon, but there is currently no timetable for when they will be operational.

The popularity of the old pickleball courts has driven the decision to relocate and expand the facilities. With the new location in place, students and faculty can look forward to enjoying the sport in a more convenient and environmentally conscious setting.
