New Nonprofit Pickle Pals Aims to Help Underserved Students Through Pickleball in Lubbock

The newest nonprofit organization in Lubbock is making a big impact on underserved students through the sport of pickleball. Pickle Pals, founded by three seniors at Lubbock High School, is not only providing a safe and fun space for students but also teaching important life skills such as communication, teamwork, and good sportsmanship through the game.

In addition to pickleball, Pickle Pals is also offering study periods before hitting the court, with volunteer tutors available to help students with their homework. The organization is hosting its inaugural fundraiser tournament on Friday, with tickets available for purchase online.

Silas Washington, one of the founders of Pickle Pals, expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, inviting pickleball fans of all skill levels to join in on the fun. The tournament will feature brackets for beginners, intermediates, and advanced players, with various rewards from local businesses for the winners.

Proceeds from the tournament will go directly to Pickle Pals, allowing the organization to continue its mission of reaching underserved students and providing them with access to the benefits of pickleball. With a focus on physical health, education, and community involvement, Pickle Pals is making a positive impact on the youth of Lubbock.
