NEC Malaysia Celebrates 125 Years with Heartwarming CSR Event for Underprivileged Children
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 14, 2025 — In a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility, NEC Malaysia marked its 125th anniversary by hosting "Smash Barrier, Serve Hope: Giving Back Through Pickleball," a heartwarming event in collaboration with the Hiichiikok Home for Children Care. The event, held in Kuala Lumpur, aimed to uplift underprivileged children through the joy of sports and technology.
The day was filled with excitement as children aged 4 to 17 participated in pickleball coaching sessions and friendly matches, each paired with an NEC employee. This unique initiative not only introduced the youngsters to the fast-growing sport of pickleball but also opened their eyes to the transformative power of technology.
"Pickleball is accessible to all ages and skill levels, making it the perfect choice for this event," said Wataru Irie, Managing Director of NEC Malaysia. "As we celebrate our journey as a trusted partner in transformation, we are reminded that trust is built through connection and care."
The event was organized by NEC Malaysia’s Next Generation Leaders, a committee dedicated to driving meaningful change within the company. Employees shared inspiring stories about innovation, giving the children a glimpse into how technology shapes lives globally.
Frieda Ngui, Home Manager of Hiichiikok Home, expressed her gratitude, stating, "We’re grateful to NEC for spending time with the children. As underprivileged youths, they rarely get such opportunities. The pickleball session and ‘Adopt a Child for a Day’ initiative truly made them feel included, cared for, and joyful."
In addition to the sporting activities, NEC Malaysia raised RM8,000 to provide essential groceries and furniture for the home, reinforcing its commitment to community well-being.
