NEC Malaysia Celebrates 125 Years with Heartwarming CSR Event for Underprivileged Children

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 14, 2025 — In a remarkable display of community spirit, NEC Malaysia marked its 125th anniversary by hosting "Smash Barrier, Serve Hope: Giving Back Through Pickleball," a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event aimed at uplifting underprivileged children from the Hiichiikok Home for Children Care. The event, held in Kuala Lumpur, featured engaging pickleball coaching sessions and friendly matches, pairing each child with an NEC employee for a day of fun and learning.

Children aged 4 to 17 were introduced to the sport of pickleball, chosen for its accessibility to all ages and skill levels. The event not only focused on sports but also aimed to inspire the youth by showcasing the exciting world of technology. NEC employees shared stories of innovation, providing the children with insights into how technology can enhance lives and open doors to future opportunities.

Wataru Irie, Managing Director of NEC Malaysia, emphasized the importance of connection and care in building trust. "This event is proudly organized by NEC Malaysia’s Next Generation Leaders, a committee dedicated to driving transformation across the company. Through programs like this, we aim to inspire the next generation and build a future where technology empowers people of all ages and backgrounds," he stated.

Frieda Ngui, Home Manager of Hiichiikok Home, expressed gratitude for NEC’s efforts, noting, "As underprivileged youths, they rarely get such opportunities. The pickleball session and ‘Adopt a Child for a Day’ initiative truly made them feel included, cared for, and joyful."

In addition to the day’s activities, NEC Malaysia raised RM8,000 to provide essential groceries and furniture for the home, reinforcing its commitment to community well-being. The event showcased NEC’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond technology, one meaningful connection at a time.

As NEC Malaysia continues to lead in digital transformation, it remains steadfast in its mission to empower future generations, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
