Introducing Pickleball to Rural Communities: Balai Ringin Mini-Stadium to Have Pickleball Court
The mini-stadium in Balai Ringin will soon be home to a new pickleball court, announced by assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan. This initiative aims to introduce the popular sport to the rural community, especially the youth.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT), Snowdan expressed his commitment to promoting pickleball beyond urban areas. The tournament, which attracted 500 local and foreign players, is set to return in 2026 on a larger scale, potentially drawing participants from countries like the United States and Canada.
Snowdan, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, emphasized the tourism potential of hosting such events. He highlighted the mini-stadium’s unique feature as having the largest dedicated indoor pickleball court in Asia, distinguishing it from other venues that repurpose existing facilities.
Organized by the Kuching Pickleball Association (KPA) in partnership with Business Event Sarawak (BE SARAWAK) and supported by various ministries and associations, BPIT 2024 showcased the growing interest in pickleball in the region. With plans to expand the sport’s reach and attract international participants, the future looks bright for pickleball enthusiasts in Sarawak.
