Michael Miles’ Pickleball Journey: From America to England’s Biggest Championships
Michael Miles’ pickleball journey has taken him from the United States to the biggest national championships in Bolton, England. Introduced to the sport by friends eight years ago, Miles found his passion for pickleball reignited when he moved to the UK. Despite the odd name, Miles is now addicted to the game and values the friendships he has made through playing.
Pickleball, a sport created in 1965 and named after a pet dog, has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with over 30,000 players in England alone. The inclusive nature of the game allows players of all ages and abilities to participate, with a record-breaking 1,111 players competing in the 2024 Skechers English Nationals at Bolton Arena.
Miles expressed his love for the atmosphere in Bolton and the opportunity to compete with players from across the UK. The tournament, which ran from October 31st to November 3rd, showcased the growing popularity of pickleball in England. With over 1,000 players participating, the event was a testament to the sport’s inclusive and welcoming community.
