Meijer Donates $1 Million to Meijer Sports Complex Expansion Campaign

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) received a generous $1 million gift from Meijer towards the Meijer Sports Complex’s A Winning Streak for West Michigan expansion campaign. The exciting announcement was made at a private donor event held at the Meijer Sports Complex.

With this significant donation, the campaign has now raised $5.8 million, reaching 53% of its $11 million fundraising goal. Meijer President and CEO Rick Keyes expressed the company’s commitment to supporting youth and amateur sports, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe and enjoyable environment for families to participate in sports activities.

WMSC President Mike Guswiler expressed gratitude for Meijer’s lead gift, which has helped motivate other donors to contribute to the campaign. The A Winning Streak for West Michigan capital campaign, launched in October 2022, aims to enhance and expand the Meijer Sports Complex to better serve the community.

At the donor event, pledges from various organizations and individuals were announced in response to Meijer’s generous donation. The Secchia Family Foundation, DeVos Family Foundations, Jandernoa Foundation, and others, including the Kent County Board of Commissioners and Congresswoman Hilary Scholten, have shown their support for the campaign.

The renovation and expansion plans for the Meijer Sports Complex include the addition of a new championship softball field, flexible-use diamond fields, pickleball courts, and improved facilities for spectators and players. Construction is set to begin later this year, with the groundbreaking for the new championship softball field scheduled for early 2024.
