Albany State University Welcomes Mark Brown as New Coordinator of Athletics Facilities and Operations
ALBANY, GA – Albany State University (ASU) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mark Brown as its new Coordinator of Athletics Facilities and Operations, effective Monday. With over two decades of experience in athletic operations and facility management, Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep-rooted connection to both the university and the southwest Georgia community.
Dr. Kristene Kelly, ASU’s Director of Athletics, expressed enthusiasm about Brown’s arrival, stating, “We are excited to welcome Mark to the Albany State Athletics RAMily. His familiarity with Albany State, along with his extensive experience in game day operations and facility management, made him a clear choice. But what truly stood out was his passion for the role, his commitment to service, and his genuine love for Albany State’s mission and community.”
Brown’s journey to this pivotal role is marked by significant contributions to the local athletic landscape. Most recently, he served as Program Director at the Albany YMCA, where he managed youth soccer and basketball leagues, as well as adult pickleball programming. His involvement with Albany State has been notable, having played a key role in the university’s Youth Enrichment Program in 2023 and 2024 as a recreational instructor and athletic program assistant.
“I’ve come full circle,” Brown remarked. “This is a place that means a lot to me, and I’m grateful to Dr. Kelly and the search committee for the opportunity. I’m thrilled to be a Golden Ram and ready to get to work.”
Before his tenure at the YMCA, Brown dedicated 16 years to Andrew College in Cuthbert, where he excelled as Athletic Fields and Operations Manager and Sports Information Director. His responsibilities included maintaining multiple athletic fields, coordinating logistics for over 70 annual events—including games, commencements, and convocations—and overseeing transportation and work-study student staff.
A native of Shellman, Georgia, Brown holds a Master of Education from Columbus State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Valdosta State College. His athletic background is equally impressive; as a former collegiate baseball player, he was part of Valdosta State’s 1979 NCAA Division II National Championship team. Additionally, he has coached both baseball and fast pitch softball at the collegiate level and has held various leadership roles within his community.
Brown’s appointment is a significant step in Albany State’s ongoing efforts to enhance its athletic facilities and game day operations, reinforcing the university’s commitment to supporting student-athletes and fostering a vibrant campus community. As he steps into this new role, the Albany State community eagerly anticipates the positive impact he will undoubtedly bring.
