Makati’s Car-Free Sundays initiative along Ayala Avenue, celebrating its second anniversary next month, is expanding to include new social and accessible sports activities with the addition of pickleball and 3×3 basketball courts. The pickleball court, launched on August 10 with notable personalities in attendance, will be regularly available, while the 3×3 basketball court, initially introduced during a summer tournament, will return on select Sundays. These additions aim to make the open-streets event more inclusive and encourage a weekly habit of movement among participants.
Ayala Land’s project development manager, Misha Quimpo, emphasized that the initiative seeks to offer diverse ways for people of all ages and fitness levels to stay active, from running and cycling to court sports. The upcoming anniversary celebration will also feature a fun run, additional fitness activities, and a photo exhibit showcasing participants, further promoting an active lifestyle within the community.
